Briton, American Detained in Chukotka for Illegally Crossing Border

They told the police that they were heading from South America to Great Britain, and had crossed the Russian-American border in the Bering Strait, traveling from Alaska.

Yes, everybody knows Americans don't walk! ;-)

Actually these guys started at the southern end of South America and hiked the entire length of South and North America in an attempt to walk around the world (at least - as much of the world as possible).

Seems to me they could have gotten the correct visa and checked in at the first city they arrived at, however - to avoid the problem. Being crazy is no excuse for being stupid!
